about the artisan
our ceramic pottery is lovingly made by a group of skilled potters who each learned their craft through apprenticeship. one particular member of that group is chandra who is hearing impaired and has been unable to speak since birth. she has worked in the pottery industry for 16 years now and has mastered her skills as she creates her unique and beautiful designs. The group consists of other women and men who, too, struggle with differing disabilities and yet have found not only a safe place within the pottery group, but a sense of confidence and dignity as people within their individual communities. the candle is made by a local bee farmer in rwanda.
