these little altars are a symbol to signify a spiritual space within your home or in memory. The story behind them comes from a tradition in the the neighborhood my husband's family lives in in São Paulo state. a gorgeous wooden altar standing about 2.5-3' tall is shared among neighbors as it’s passed from home to home. the altar has wooden doors that open to reveal the virgin mary but sometimes the sacred heart. a neighbor receives the altar from another neighbor and keeps it in their home for a day, for days, weeks (or longer even); the altar and its space is adorned with candles, pictures and flowers, etc., a tradition of keeping space (the altar) for (and memory of) loved ones or simply when prayer is needed. once the one neighbor is finished holding on to the altar, they pack it up and send it to the next neighbor. please note each altar is unique and will vary slightly in color from the picture.

Testimonials
One little world fair trade is amazing, I absolutely love everything in this store. It's my go to for gifts and extra nice things for my home. Kudos to Jodie and her team/family for creating such a warm, thoughtful and positive presence in our neighborhood. I learn something new every time I go and I can't wait to attend some of the live workshops!
I've bought a few things from One Little World that are used and enjoyed regularly in my home (exp: felt mistletoe decoration, dryer ball). Both are still in very good condition even after years of use. I also appreciate having this option to support more civil and dignified working conditions for people who create these products.
